Throughout the month of October, we did a portrait unit, a still life on an altered canvas, pottery, and blind contour. In the portrait unit I took a lot of risks. I originally began trying to do my portrait with a grid, and it wasn't looking as good as I had hoped, so I took a risk and ditched the grid and drew myself just by looking at a picture I had taken. I like how the portrait turned out and I think the risk was worth it. I also took a risk in the blind contour assignment. Drawing without looking down at my paper was a risk because I was unsure of what the final product would be, but I'm happy with the abstract feel to the images. I also developed skill during the blind contour exercise. I was training my brain and hand to not look down at the paper as I drew. I also developed skill while making the pottery bowl, because I tried a new technique I never have before- sgraffito.
